Palestinian political analyst: Gaza’s humanitarian situation is catastrophic and international pressure falls short of addressing the crisis

The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate amid an unprecedented collapse of living and health conditions. The ongoing blockade and intensifying military operations have led to the near-total breakdown of essential services, according to both international and local organizations.

Hospitals in Gaza face a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, and their capacity is overwhelmed due to the influx of injured and sick patients. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has warned of an impending health catastrophe if the supply chain remains disrupted.

Meanwhile, over one million Palestinians in Gaza are experiencing food insecurity, according to the World Food Programme. Thousands of families who lost their homes in airstrikes are now living in overcrowded and inadequate shelters.

UNRWA has stated that the situation in Gaza has reached a dangerous level, urging immediate international intervention to establish safe corridors for humanitarian aid. Several human rights organizations have also called for an end to attacks on civilian infrastructure and for the protection of the population.

The crisis unfolds in a state of near-complete paralysis in most sectors, with prolonged electricity cuts, a severe shortage of drinking water, and deteriorating sanitation systems. If left unchecked, the situation could lead to disease outbreaks.

Dr. Ahmad Al-Atawneh, a Palestinian political analyst, stated that the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza have reached a catastrophic level due to the continued blockade and military escalation, and due to the absence of an effective international response.

Al-Atawneh said Gaza is facing one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history. He stressed that the issue is no longer limited to service shortages but involves a near-total collapse of both health and living infrastructure. He accused the international community of reacting with hollow condemnations and lacking concrete actions.

He also highlighted the ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and essential goods, which have further complicated the situation for over two million Palestinians, including hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people.

Al-Atawneh warned that international silence encourages continued violations. He called for stronger Palestinian diplomatic efforts to expose what is happening in Gaza, internationalize the issue, end the aggression, lift the blockade, and ensure international protection for civilians.

He concluded by asserting that the real solution lies in addressing the root causes of the crisis, noting that the ongoing occupation is the primary source of Gaza’s suffering.
