Prisons and Salary Cuts… Houthi Betrayal Deepens Their Wounds

While Houthi leaders live in lavish wealth, the militia’s wounded are left to suffer from neglect, indifference, and salary cuts, with some even facing arrest.

Members of the Houthi militia and their families pay a heavy price, bearing the cost of their deaths or disabilities, with many remaining at home, unable to work or move.

Neglect of 3,000 Wounded

This new crisis recently emerged “on the table of the militia leader, Abdel-Malik al-Houthi,” and involves the abandonment of a large number of wounded, the halting of their salaries, and the cessation of medical treatment they were receiving while on the front lines.

According to military and security sources quoted, “complaints and appeals have piled up in the offices of the Ministries of Defense and Interior under the Houthi militia, as well as in the committees responsible for treating the wounded, all calling for the payment of salaries and the continuation of medical care.”

The sources, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that “more than 3,000 Houthi wounded have been abandoned by the militia, their salaries cut, and the medical services provided to them stopped. They are now being treated as civilian war victims, while all were fighters within the militia and were injured on the battlefield.”

Arrests and Neglect

In December 2024, several wounded individuals gathered in front of the Houthi Ministry of Defense in Sanaa, along with another group in front of the General Revolution Hospital in the capital to protest the neglect they were facing.

However, the militia responded harshly to suppress these gatherings. Sources report that “the militia arrested many of their wounded and threw them into prison, and none have been released to this day, particularly those who protested demanding their unjustly suspended salaries.”

The wounded are not the only ones neglected by the Houthi militias. The families of the militia’s slain fighters also face the same fate, but the militias keep this matter secret to avoid demoralizing their fighters.

According to the same sources, “hundreds of complaints have been sent to Houthi authorities by the families of the dead, demanding the approval of salaries, with some not having even received the bodies of their loved ones.”

The families of the wounded and dead Houthi fighters also complain about racial discrimination by the militia, as those close to the leadership receive significant care and attention, including being sent abroad for treatment, while other wounded are left to die, according to the same sources.
