Qatar puts World Cup fans in desert tents, Hotel rooms are in short supply
The Qatari government has admitted that it is facing a severe shortage in hotel rooms and that it will not be able to accommodate all the fans of the World Cup, which will be held next November, after long years of deceit, bragging and insistence on its ability to accommodate a championship of this size. The Australian website “De Marge” reported that what is happening in Qatar is a major disaster, as for the first time in the history of the World Cup, the host country fails to find hotel rooms for the fans.
Lack of infrastructure
It said that Qatar is preparing to host the World Cup at the end of this year in November and until December. Despite Qatari capabilities and huge funds, fans may face their worst championship, adding that as with any major sporting event, many plan to travel to Qatar later this year amid expectations that Qatar will receive 1.2 million visitors during the 28-day soccer tournament, but there is a major problem that the small Gulf country does not have sufficient accommodations for all these numbers. It added that according to international statistics, Qatar has less than 30,000 hotel rooms, and 80% of these rooms are already reserved for guests among the International Football Federation and the media outlets.
Cheerleaders in the desert
According to the Australian website, Qatar plans to erect 1000 Bedouin-style tents in the desert, where the government claimed it would give guests a chance to enjoy the desert and camping conditions, ignoring the adverse weather conditions that fans may face during the night. It added that the Qatari government has ignored the tournament being held in spring, where temperatures drop significantly at night, in addition to hurricanes, dust storms and rain.
