Qatar’s former Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani suffers from a health problem
The past few hours have witnessed a severe deterioration in the health of the former Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, after he was detained in a Doha hospital for unknown reasons, as yet unannounced. According to a source from the Amiri Diwan, the former Emir was detained in the hospital amid a state of deliberate blackout, fearing a state of tension within the ruling family.
Controversies within the royal family
The source confirmed that the disputes between members of the ruling family revolve around the sharing of the former Emir’s wealth and influence, which threatens the rule of the current Emir himself if it is not contained, according to the source. There is a state of alert inside the hospital where the former Prince is being held, and no doctor is allowed to see the state of health other than two doctors close to the ruling family. The ex-Prince’s bodyguards and others are prevented from approaching.
It added: “The former emir is in a special ward at Hamad Hospital in Doha, and the intensive care ward and the corridor leading to his room have been completely closed, while only reliable doctors and close associates of the ruling family are allowed to see the state of health and to supervise the treatment of Hamad bin Khalifa, accompanied by security personnel and the prince’s bodyguards”.
The unnamed source added: that members of the ruling family loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood are recently leading a campaign to overthrow Emir Tamim bin Hamad, due to a reduction in funding granted to them by Qatar, as well as the non-interference of Tamim bin Hamad with his most prominent ally Erdogan against the backdrop of the removal of members of the group from Turkey.
Qatar’s putsch
History bears witness to a series of coups d’état, the most recent of which was the forced abdication of Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa in 2013 in favor of his son Tamim Bin Hamad. Historically, the beginning was with Abdullah Bin Jassim, the founder of the Qatari state, who was forced to abdicate by the British in 1949. Ali Bin Abdullah, who assumed power after him, was forced to abdicate by the British in 1960.
The next emir, Ahmed bin Ali, was toppled by his cousin Khalifa in 1972, and even Khalifa bin Hamad, Tamim’s grandfather, was overthrown by his son Hamad and Tamim’s father in 1995, and in 2013, Hamad bin Khalifa abdicated in favor of his son Tamim.
