Saudi Arabia: Salma al-Rashed represents the country at the Women 20 Sherpa

Salma al-Rashed represents Saudi Arabia at the Women 20, which is the official G20 engagement group on women, before the G20 Summit this weekend.

As she is the official Women 20 Sherpa, Al-Rashed has tasks in organizing conferences for the event and would be holding a media briefing in Riyadh on Thursday entitled Paving the way post-COVID-19: Unleashing the power of women in the economy.

She was designated Women 20 Sherpa after a long career as a practitioner in the social sector, and she supervised many development projects focusing on women’s empowerment. She also has participated locally in several committees to influence policy and worked together with decision-makers to guarantee a holistic approach to social development.

Al-Rashed was also a representative of civil society internationally at many UN human rights conventions; she led the organization’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) applications and participating at the Commission on the Status of Women. She also represented Saudi Arabia at the Women20 as the director of the delegation to Argentina and Japan since 2018, and she also participated in activities and dialogues to enhance gender-inclusive social and economic growth.

Therefore, with a rigorous background about gender and development questions, al-Rashid guarantees that the Women 20’s work is always in the same line with its mission, the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 aims, and the UN’s Sustainable Development objectives.
