Somali Plane Veers Off During Landing
Two people were injured after a civilian plane veered off during landing at Mogadishu Airport on Tuesday.
Video footage from surveillance cameras shows the moment the plane veered off on the runway and violently collided with the barriers surrounding the runway, causing parts of the aircraft to scatter due to the impact.
Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Fawzia Abikar Nur, announced that one person was injured as a result of the civilian plane veering off at Aden Adde International Airport in the capital, Mogadishu.
The Somali minister stated in an official media statement that “the plane, which was coming from the city of Garowe, the capital of the Puntland region, deviated from its path on the airport runway.”
Meanwhile, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority reported the crash of a civilian passenger plane during landing at Mogadishu International Airport.
According to the Minister of Air Transport, the plane was carrying about 50 people.
Local Somali reports indicate that the authorities are still uncertain about the reason for the plane veering off the runway.
