Sudanese analyst reveals: The suffering of civilians and the deterioration of humanitarian conditions is increasing significantly

“Fierce fighting continues in the capital Khartoum and other Sudanese cities between the army and the Rapid Support, with all pacification efforts failing and breaching the humanitarian truce agreed by both sides several times, and there are no indications so far that either of the warring parties can achieve a quick victory or is willing to back down and accept negotiations that end the crisis and return the situation to normal.”

Sudan Siege

Ten million people remain trapped under bullets, gunfire and jet-bothering in the three cities of the Sudanese capital (Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman) for the tenth consecutive day, with no prefabricated shelters, adequate food stocks, water or fuel, while struggling to get daily supplies from shops and risking death when forced to go out to buy basic necessities, a Vision report said.

“Human rights reports said one-third of Sudan’s population was food insecure before the conflict, and the situation is expected to worsen across the country, possibly according to the World Food Program, which has been forced to temporarily halt food aid and cash assistance distributions;” An explosion of violence in Sudan could plunge millions more into hunger.

The suffering of the Sudanese people

Civilian suffering has rapidly escalated and the already fragile humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating, said Aboud Al Khalifa, a Sudanese political analyst; “People are trapped in their homes by shells and bullets and are waiting for a quick resolution to the conflict, healthcare and humanitarian workers are unable to continue working, and many hospitals, grocery stores, pharmacies, healthcare centers and supply points are out of service;” Dire consequences are looming.

He added that the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces is hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to those who deserve it, and that this is a dangerous indicator and a harbinger of not expecting the end of the war in the foreseeable future and the difficulty of convincing the two parties to sit at the dialog table and reach a peaceful solution to the escalating crisis between them.
