Syria is suffering from the worst hunger crisis
According to the German aid organization Welthungerhilfe, after 10 years of civil war, Syria suffers from the worst hunger crisis in the history.
The non-government group’s Syria coordinator Konstantin Witschel informed dpa that an alarming record of 12 million people does not have sufficient to eat, almost 60 per cent of the population.
During the past year, the humanitarian situation in general worsened with the refugees that are principally affected.
Witschel stated, after visiting the northern Syrian city of Azaz, that the situation in camps is terrible. He also indicated that about all goods in refugee camps were missing and the winter temperatures and heavy rain were more affecting people’s conditions.
The non-government group’s Syria coordinator also said that during our visit, we met 30 children who only wore sweaters and sandals in six or seven degrees Celsius, adding that the decline in the Syrian lira had tripled food prices.
