Taliban – Repressive new resolutions target Afghan women

The extremist Taliban movement has adopted new oppressive decisions targeting Afghan women, after banning them from education, employment, hiking, and treatment.

The Taliban government has given 10 days to close women’s beauty salons in Afghanistan and ban girls from working in commercial centers.

The sources added that a US delegation arrived in Turkey to meet with the Supreme Council of the Afghan Resistance Front, to discuss solutions to the crisis in the country.

On December 22nd, the Taliban issued orders to NGOs in Afghanistan prohibiting women from working in NGOs, without specifying whether these orders included foreign workers.

The announcement came just four days after the Taliban government banned Afghan women from attending public and private universities indefinitely.

Women were also excluded from most public jobs, or given low wages, to induce them to stay home.

Women are no longer allowed to travel without a male family member and must wear a Battoulah.

In November, the movement banned women from going to parks, gardens, gyms, and public swimming pools.

Although the Taliban pledged greater flexibility after returning to power in August 2021, they quickly reneged on their promises.

For the past 16 months, the Taliban have increased measures restricting freedoms, particularly for women who have been gradually excluded from public life and are severely excluded.
