The statement came in response to comments made on Monday by Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, who said he expected to meet Iranian diplomats “next week or so.”
On the same day, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian laid down a condition for restarting negotiations with Washington over the nuclear issue.
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, aired Monday, Pezeshkian said he saw “no problem” in resuming talks with the United States — provided that mutual trust could be restored between the two nations.

Fearing Devastating Effects, Iranian President Urges Supreme Leader Not to Attack Israel
“There is one condition… for resuming negotiations: how can we trust the United States again? We can return to talks, but how can we be sure, in the midst of negotiations, that the Israeli regime won’t be authorized to attack us again?” he said.
Last week, Iran officially suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following the approval by President Pezeshkian of a law passed by Parliament. This move came in response to American and Israeli strikes on nuclear facilities during the twelve-day war with Israel last month.
