Testimonies Reveal New Violations by the Sudanese Army in the Country

The U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, condemned reports from the city of Wad Madani that revealed acts of reprisal against civilians. He described these violations as “horrific” and stressed that they must stop immediately.

In a statement on the platform “X,” Perriello emphasized the need for the Sudanese army and its affiliated militias to take immediate steps to investigate these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

These statements come amid growing international concern about the humanitarian situation in Sudan, worsened by the Sudanese army’s ongoing violations that exacerbate civilian suffering.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Sudanese army acknowledged “individual violations” committed by some of its members in the Al Jazirah State after seizing control of the city of Wad Madani.

These admissions followed accusations against the Sudanese army of engaging in ethnic cleansing and random killings in Wad Madani.

Human rights groups and political forces accused the Sudanese army of killing civilians and detaining women as part of an ethnic campaign targeting residents of the “kanabis” in the Al Jazirah State in central Sudan.

According to Sudan Tribune, the crimes included murder, executions, abductions, humiliation, and torture, which constitute blatant violations of international humanitarian law.

A Wave of Violence and Executions in Al Jazirah State

The Al Jazirah State has witnessed a new wave of violence and field executions carried out by militias affiliated with the Sudanese army, including the Al-Baraa brigades, following their takeover of Wad Madani, despite condemnations from Washington.

These retaliatory operations targeted civilians accused of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces, in gross violation of international laws and human rights.

Documented Field Executions in Videos

Militias linked to the Islamic Movement, associated with the Sudanese army, released videos documenting field executions of individuals accused of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces.

These videos, widely circulated by Sudanese activists, showed physical assaults, shootings of victims, and some being thrown into the Nile River before being shot again in the water.

These acts occurred despite previous statements from the Sudanese army claiming that detainees from the Rapid Support Forces would be treated “with dignity.”

Incitement Campaigns on Social Media

Supporters of the former regime launched a campaign on social media calling for the elimination of those suspected of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces in the Al Jazirah State.

These calls also included demands to evacuate residents of the “kanabis” from the region, marking a dangerous escalation that could lead to crimes against humanity.

Simultaneously, the Sudan Shield militias, led by Abu Aqla Kikal, carried out a massacre in Kombo Taiba, killing eight people, including two children, and abducting thirteen women.

Growing Concerns Among Human Rights Advocates

This rise in violence has triggered a wave of concern among political figures and human rights advocates. They warned of the dangers of field executions and identity-based killings, emphasizing that these severe violations fall under the responsibility of the Sudanese army due to its collaboration with militias.
