The death of the Iranian ambassador to the Houthis

The Iranian Foreign Ministry officially announced, today, the death of its ambassador to the Houthi terrorist militia in Sanaa, Hassan Erlo.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh said: Ambassador Erlo died of coronavirus.

Erlo left Yemen two days ago under a Saudi-Iranian agreement. An Iraqi plane took him to Baghdad before he was transferred to his country.

On Saturday evening, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said: “Hassan Erlo has been infected for days with the coronavirus and is in need of urgent medical care, and as a result the Foreign Ministry has been in contact with some countries in order to transfer him to Iran for treatment”.

In the same statements, Khateeb Zada noted that the contacts “led in the end to the preparation necessary for the evacuation of the ambassador”.

In October last year, it was announced that the “Ambassador of Iran” had arrived in Sana’a, representing Tehran to the unrecognized government.

He is an air defense officer, the primary engineer of Houthi airstrikes, and an “anti-aircraft weapons expert”.

The late Iranian military man is a key officer in the Qods Force, which was led by Qassem Soleimani and is part of a family that was mostly members of the Revolutionary Guard.

“The United States imposed sanctions on Erlo at the end of last year, for his role in coordinating cooperation between the Revolutionary Guard and the Houthis”.

According to sources quoted by the Al-Hurra network, “Erlo has become a political problem that increases the burden on the Houthis, given his large influence in Yemen, which strengthens the perception that the Houthis are affiliated with Iran, and are moving in their direction”.
