The first since the outbreak of the war with Iran: interception of a Houthi missile targeting Israel

The Israeli army announced on Saturday that air defense systems successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Iran-backed Houthi militias toward southern Israel.

No casualties were reported as a result of the attack, which is the first originating from Yemen since the outbreak of the current war.

Air raid sirens sounded in Be’er Sheva and the surrounding towns in southern Israel due to a ballistic missile attack coming from Yemen.

For their part, the Houthi militias claimed responsibility for carrying out their first ballistic missile launch operation toward Israel since the beginning of the war 30 days ago.

The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated in a statement that the missile launch coincided with similar attacks by the Lebanese Hezbollah.

The Houthis began attacking Israel and maritime shipping for the first time in November 2023, one month after the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023.

The Iran-backed group launched dozens of missiles and drones at Israel amid clashes in Gaza. However, since the ceasefire with Hamas in October 2025, the group has refrained from carrying out strikes against Israel.
