The German Embassy in Cairo denies the honorary doctorate degree granted to Mohamed Ramadan
The German Embassy in Cairo has denied the honorary doctorate degree granted to Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan in Beirut.
The embassy said in a statement on its Facebook account on Thursday: We are always flattered to see how many people like a German word, but keep in mind that not all companies or institutions that offer or use the word Germany are accredited and affiliated with the German government.”
The statement continued: “The German government has nothing to do with the so-called German Cultural Center in Lebanon. If you want to receive documented news and information about Germany, its foreign policies and official cultural centers, follow us up with the Goethe Institute and the German Institute for Scientific Exchange.”
The award of the honorary doctorate of the artist Mohamed Ramadan from a Germany-Lebanon center has caused a great controversy on social media in Egypt, between surprising and reprehensible, prompting the German embassy in Cairo to react.
