The Gulf Initiative for a Political Solution in Yemen calls for engagement in peace talks in Yemen

“The people of Yemen have been experiencing setbacks, starting with the setback of the Arab Spring and entering the occupation and coup of the Houthis against the Yemeni people and the legitimate government.”

The truce would have been the best decision in Yemen for the people and the forces, but all attempts by the legitimate coalition led by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United Nations have failed because of the intransigence of the Houthi militia, which rejects the truce for the people of Yemen and has always been suffering. The rapprochement between all parties at the present time has opened the door for the political forces in Yemen to have a peace process among the people of Yemen as a whole.

Gulf initiative promotes peace in Yemen

Meanwhile, GCC Secretary-General Jassim al-Bedawi said the current conditions are right for engaging in peace talks to reach a political solution in Yemen.

In statements marking the first anniversary of Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, al-Bedawi called on Yemenis to “unite ranks and advance Yemen’s interests in the first place so it may enjoy peace, security and stability”. He said current conditions are conducive for engaging in peace talks to reach a political solution in accordance with the Gulf initiative, the outcomes of the Comprehensive Dialog Conference and Security Council resolution 2016.

al-Bedawi praised what the brothers reached during the consultations hosted by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) from March 29 to April 7, 2022, in which Yemeni leaders, members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, and representatives of political forces and civil society participated in reaching important mechanisms to strengthen unity, build channels of communication, consultation and reconciliation, and support the economic decision to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people and resume the development and construction process.

Military Resolve and Recapture of Remaining Houthi-Controlled Areas

Marzouk al-Sayyadi, a member of the media team at Yemen’s Ministry of Information, said the solution is a military solution to take back what remains of the areas controlled by the Houthi terrorist militia. When we talk about political solutions and reaching a lasting peace with the Houthi terrorist group, which is supported by Iran, it is impossible for the people of Yemen and the legitimate government to reach peace with the Houthi terrorist group, he said.

It is well-known that a terrorist group is operating in accordance with the dictates of the Iranian regime to destabilize the security and stability of the region, especially the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states, al-Sayyadi said. The war in Yemen is nothing but a battleground aimed at undermining the security and stability of the Arab Gulf.

He added: “It is not strange that the Houthi group, but it is known that it is a group with no covenant, no charter, no values, no morals and no principles to abide by, as its commitment to reach a political settlement under the umbrella of the Gulf initiative is nothing but a fighter’s respite.”
