The War on Iran: Mapping the Targets

Regime-affiliated sites and military objectives form the map of targets in the Israeli and American strikes against Iran.

On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched an offensive against Iran, following weeks of threats from Washington of potential military action and the deployment of forces to the Middle East for that purpose.

Israel’s public broadcaster Kan, citing an Israeli official, reported that the Israeli strikes targeted “military sites,” including facilities for “ballistic missile” production.

A news ticker on Kan 11 television read: “Israeli official: regime-affiliated sites and military locations are being targeted, including ballistic missile factories.”

The broadcaster added that the Israeli Air Force was conducting attacks on dozens of regime-linked targets in the heart of Tehran, in addition to other strikes across various parts of Iran in recent minutes.

Reuters reported that seven missiles struck an area near the presidential palace and the compound of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in central Tehran.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had launched “major combat operations” against Iran.

Israel’s Ministry of Defense stated that it had carried out a preemptive strike against Iran, while Israeli media reported that military sites and ballistic missile factories were targeted.

This marks the second time in recent months that the United States and Israel have carried out strikes against Iran, following the June 2025 war initiated by Israel, which targeted nuclear, military, and civilian sites, and in which Washington participated by bombing key Iranian nuclear facilities.

During the twelve-day conflict, Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones toward Israel and a U.S. military base in Doha.

The launch of today’s offensive came hours after Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the course of negotiations with Iran, amid talks between the two sides mediated by Oman.

Trump stated shortly beforehand that the United States was conducting “major combat operations” against Iran, adding that they aimed to eliminate Iran’s missile industry and naval capabilities.

Iranian state television confirmed that an Israeli “aggression” had targeted Tehran.

Two thick columns of smoke were seen rising over central and eastern parts of the Iranian capital.

The ISNA news agency reported that the smoke was rising from the vicinity of the Pasteur district, where the headquarters of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Iranian presidency are located in central Tehran.

Explosions were also heard in several Iranian cities, particularly in Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, according to the Fars news agency.
