These few signs on your health show that you lack vitamin D

There are two forms of vitamin D: vitamin D2, synthesized by plants, and vitamin D3, which is found in animals. But the vitamin D present in our body is produced at 80% thanks to sunlight. In winter, it is therefore logical that the latter may run out. Vitamin D plays a role in good bone health. Lack of vitamin D can lead to fatigue, depression or dry skin. These few signs on your health surely prove that you are deficient.

A feeling of fatigue

Vitamin D helps calcium and phosphorus to be absorbed by the body. However, these two minerals are particularly essential for the development of bones and teeth. Thus, a lack of these two elements leads to muscle weakness, fatigue, but also a depressed mood.

depression

In general, winter depression is associated with lack of light. An Austrian study from 2000, conducted on 25 depressive patients, shows that these people have a lower vitamin D level than those in good health. It would protect the neurons that synthesize dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters essential for the proper functioning of the brain. Another US study from 2022 shows that vitamin D could help “various functions of the central nervous system”. The immunological actions of the latter would be specifically beneficial for mental health.

dry skin

Vitamin D is necessary for the hydration of the skin and tissues. It also helps fight against skin diseases.

Cramps and muscle pain

As it causes dryness, the lack of vitamin D leads to a lack of joint lubrication. This is why a vitamin D deficiency can cause cramps.

How to cure it ?

In addition to exposing yourself to the sun or filling the gap with essential oils or food supplements, certain foods are known to be rich in vitamin D.

the Cod liver,

The oily fish such as herring, mackerel, sardines or salmon

The offal: livers, for example

The eggs

The cheeses

the butter

The citrus
