They Were in the Brotherhood’s Stronghold: Arrest of a Houthi Cell on Its Way to Sanaa

The security authorities announced the arrest of a Houthi cell in the Wadi Hadramout, in the east of the country, under the control of the terrorist organization of the Muslim Brotherhood, as it was heading towards Sanaa, which is under the group’s control.

The Security Media Center affiliated with the Ministry of Interior stated that a joint security operation by the security of Wadi and Desert Hadramout and the 23rd Mechanized Brigade arrested a cell consisting of 13 members on its way to join the Houthis. It added that the cell members, aged between 18 and 25 and from Hadramout province, were arrested while they were at a restaurant in Al Abr district, according to the website “Naftat Yemen.”

It was clarified that the cell was led by a person from Qatn district who had recruited the cell members to transfer them to the Houthis in Sanaa for recruitment, training, and later distribution as sleeper cells in Hadramout province upon their return. The statements of the arrested individuals revealed the existence of two people who coordinated with the Houthis to recruit the cell members, noting that the suspects have been detained in connection with the case, and efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining cell members.

The meetings between the Houthis and the Muslim Brotherhood reveal a hidden partnership between the two parties aimed at disrupting the security of the liberated areas, particularly the south led by the Transitional Council, which has been a stumbling block in the way of the Houthis and the Brotherhood‘s return to the legitimate scene, according to Yemeni politicians.

The Brotherhood and the Houthis took advantage of the Yemeni people’s focus on the events in Gaza to announce their latest meeting in Sanaa, a move that carries numerous political messages and indicates the extent of their partnership, according to observers.

Observers believe that the Brotherhood-Houthi meetings occur amid changes on the ground in the south, which has led the Houthi and Brotherhood militias to reveal their previously secret meetings in the open in recent days.
