Thirteen killed in explosion in Karachi, Pakistan
The collapse of a building in the Pakistani city of Karachi following an explosion on Thursday has left at least 13 people dead, including children.
Pakistani police said that at least 13 people, among them women and children, were killed after a gas cylinder explosion caused a residential building to collapse in the coastal city.
According to the authorities, the cylinder exploded on the first floor of a multi-storey complex in Soldber Bazar, a residential neighborhood in the eastern part of the densely populated metropolis.
Soumiya Syed, a police official, stated that seven children were among the victims. Police added that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Emergency response teams, who rescued more than a dozen injured individuals from the rubble, warned that additional people may still be trapped beneath the debris.
Last month, a massive fire at a shopping center in Karachi claimed the lives of more than 70 people.
