Touba Month: Frosty days begin in Egypt

In conjunction with the start of Touba month in Egypt, the Meteorological Authority announced a drop in temperatures, reinforcing a prevailing belief among citizens.

Egyptians always associate the arrival of Touba month, one of the months in the Coptic calendar, with a significant drop in temperatures. A popular saying goes, “Touba makes the children shiver,” indicating the cooling of the atmosphere.

Egyptians consider Touba month as one of the coldest months of the year, expected to end on February 7th.

What about Touba Month? This month belongs to the Coptic Egyptian calendar, comprising 12 months starting with “Tout” and ending with “Mesori.”

Touba, the fifth month in the Coptic calendar, follows the fourth month “Kiahk” and starts on either January 9th or 10th of each Gregorian year.

Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, the head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt, stated that this month is known as the first month of the growing season in ancient Egypt, followed by the months of “Amshir” and “Baramhat” in the same season.

“Fahim” added in statements to local media that the term “Touba,” from which the month’s name is derived, means purification. It is characterized by rainfall and soil enrichment.

Meteorological Statement In conjunction with the beginning of Touba, the General Authority for Meteorology in Egypt issued a statement confirming a decrease in temperatures in most regions of the country, averaging 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.

The authority, in a statement published on its Facebook page, mentioned that daytime weather would be cold in Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, the northern coast, and northern Upper Egypt, while it would be warm in southern Sinai and southern Upper Egypt.

The authority noted that cold weather would intensify during the night in most areas, accompanied by the formation of frost on crops in central Sinai and New Valley Governorate.

The authority anticipated moderate rainfall in some areas of the western coast and northern Nile Delta intermittently. It also expected light to moderate rainfall in some areas of the eastern northern coast and the far south of the Red Sea mountain ranges, possibly extending to Greater Cairo in the evening.

It pointed out that the maximum temperature in Greater Cairo would reach 19 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of only 11 degrees.
