Tragedy in Libya: Lion devours child, authorities step in

A 4-year-old child died in the city of Ajdabiya, Libya, after being attacked by a lion while at his father’s farm, sparking outrage and anger on social media in the country due to this tragic incident.

According to local media, the incident occurred while the child was playing next to his father. He approached the tethered lion without his father noticing, leading to the lion’s fatal attack on him.

Social media activists in Libya expressed their anger and dismay, calling for strict laws to criminalize the keeping of wild animals in residential areas and to enhance surveillance to protect lives and ensure citizens’ safety.

Following the incident, Prime Minister-designate by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, decided to impose a permanent ban on keeping and raising wild animals in homes, farms, or private places, or allowing them to roam the streets for any reason.

Hamad’s government has given a maximum period of 15 days to hand these animals over to the Ministry of the Interior, in preparation for placing them in appropriate facilities.
