Trump Celebrates Major Economic Victories in First 100 Days

Disregarding both domestic and international concerns over his economic policies, U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated what he called “major economic victories.”

During a large rally in Michigan on Tuesday to mark his first 100 days in office, Trump praised the economic situation and sharply attacked Democrats, including former President Joe Biden.

The event, held in a politically competitive state that is also the heart of the U.S. auto industry, was the largest gathering hosted by the Republican president since his inauguration on January 20.

In recent weeks, Trump’s performance has received a lukewarm reception from Americans amid growing concerns over his economic management, especially due to persistent inflation and his administration’s aggressive push for tariffs on nearly every country.

Reflecting on his first presidential term (2017–2021), Trump said:

“We had the greatest economy in the history of our country. We did an amazing job, and now we’re in an even better position.”

He renewed his criticism of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, saying before the crowd in Warren, home to General Motors’ technical center near Detroit, that Powell “wasn’t doing a good job.”

Trump also lashed out at “left-wing extremists” and had a brief verbal exchange with a protester.

Earlier on Tuesday, aboard Air Force One, Trump signed an executive order to ease auto tariffs.

Separately, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told CNBC that the administration had reached a trade agreement with an unnamed country that would permanently reduce some retaliatory tariffs Trump intended to impose.

In Warren, Trump described tariffs as an economic lifeline for the state of Michigan.

Amid loud cheers, he declared:

“With my tariffs on China, we are ending the greatest job theft in world history. China has taken more jobs from us than any other country.”
