Tunisian President Kais Saied has announced a 30-day suspension of the parliament

He also made the decision to fire Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi under Article 80 of the Constitution, which allows him to take extraordinary measures in the event of an “imminent threat to the national entity.”

He stressed that his move was aimed at “saving” the country which had suffered from political blockage

Decisions considered by the Tunisian General Labor Union to be “in response” to popular demands and “in accordance with” the Constitution.

Measures for the exercise of executive power

Continue to implement the Constitution, Sections I and II thereof and all constitutional provisions that do not conflict with these exceptional measures.

Abolish the Temporary Authority to Monitor the Constitutionality of Laws.

The President of the Republic prepares draft amendments on political reforms using a commission organized by presidential decree.

President Saied tasked the 63-year-old university geologist Najla Bouden with forming a government as soon as possible.

Bouden was the first woman to head the executive branch in the country’s pioneering history of women’s rights and freedoms.
