Turkish-Egyptian rapprochement.. Muslim Brotherhood youth demand safe havens outside Istanbul from their leaders
The Muslim Brotherhood’s leadership and members became anxious after the Egyptian-Turkish rapprochement, following the meetings and ongoing consultations held between the two sides. This made the group concerned about the impact of the Egyptian-Turkish rapprochement on their fate in the coming period, especially since Turkey has now reassured Egypt’s important role, after the continuous assistance provided by Egypt to Turkey throughout the past period following the devastating earthquake in Turkey.
Stop incitement
Turkish authorities reportedly notified all Muslim Brotherhood entities several months ago not to attack Egypt and a number of Arab countries, and promised to hold accountable anyone who disseminated information or material related to the country’s security or criticized its internal politics.
Muslim Brotherhood Movement
Dr. Ibrahim Rabie, a leading Muslim Brotherhood defector, said that rapprochement between Egypt and Turkey would reduce the Brotherhood’s movements abroad and the group’s incitement to violence against Egypt and the region. He said that rapprochement with Turkey on the political level would have a beneficial effect in light of the major changes in the international map that are changing every day and the balances that some seek to establish, adding that its impact on the Brotherhood would be resounding.
The Muslim Brotherhood leader added: The Brotherhood is experiencing an additional crisis, in addition to a number of conflicts and crises suffered by the organization over the past years, a new crisis related to the recent Egyptian-Turkish rapprochement, which puts the group at the center of a new storm of security and political restrictions inside Turkey, which represented the largest safe haven for the organization since its fall in Cairo in 2013.
Intra-group anxiety
He added that the organization does not rule out handing them over to Cairo at any time, especially wanted young men or members of the last ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood, who have no direct links with the Turkish authorities.
He pointed out that a number of Brotherhood youth reached out through his office, as well as to an Egyptian politician living in Istanbul, who has good relations with the security authorities in the country, to understand the current situation. They demanded to facilitate their departure from Turkey and to provide them with alternative safe havens.
