Turkish Foreign Minister Angers the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan… Details

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has provoked anger among the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan after referring to Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in a press conference held in Ankara without mentioning his position as Chairman of the Sovereignty Council or Commander of the Army.

The minister’s statement, made during a press conference discussing Turkey’s initiative to resolve the ongoing conflict in Sudan, ignited reactions on platforms associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and others supportive of the Sudanese army. It also raised concerns that Ankara might have abandoned the Islamist movement, becoming an adversary instead.

Activists claimed that Turkey has realized the Sudanese army poses a barrier to ending the war and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the country. As a result, several previously supportive nations are reportedly withdrawing from the scene due to Al-Burhan‘s weakness, lack of decisive leadership, and the Muslim Brotherhood and former regime’s grip on power.

During the conference, Fidan emphasized that efforts were being made by some countries, though he expressed regret that these initiatives had so far failed to stop the ongoing war.

He highlighted the severe humanitarian tragedies caused by the civil conflict in Sudan, which has resulted in the deaths of many civilians and the displacement of thousands, severely impacting people’s ability to access essential and safe food.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also expressed hope for progress in resolving the conflict through peace and diplomacy by 2025.

He called for an immediate halt to further bloodshed, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to achieve stability in the region and alleviate the humanitarian suffering endured by the Sudanese people.
