“Typhoon Shaheen”: two people died in Oman due to mountain collapse
Two people have been pulled out of the rubble and died as a mountain in the Rusayl industrial zone collapsed in the tropics, the Oman News Agency reported Sunday.
“Two Asian nationals were pulled out of the rubble and died as a result of the collapse of a mountain on a worker’s residence in the Rusayl industrial area following the tropical situation,” the news agency said.
Rusayl industrial zone is located in Muscat Province and covers an area of 7.9 million square meters. It is located about 15 kilometers from Muscat International Airport.
The coasts of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea have been experiencing a severe tropical storm, dubbed “Shaheen”.
The tropical storm began to form near the Indian coast. “After entering the deep Sea of Oman, affected by rising sea temperatures, it turned into a first-degree tropical cyclone.”
The cyclone causes heavy rainfall and flooding, with rainfall ranging from 200-500 millimeters and waves between 8 and 12 meters high with peak wind speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour.
