UAE diplomacy a source of inspiration to the world

UAE foreign policy has become a model of efficiency, balance, and success thanks to the sound foundations on which it is based and the constants on which it is based. The soft diplomacy of the State has today become a distinctive sign, to which some States would like to learn more, through a clear and concrete approach in practice. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Al Nahyan’s son, established a distinguished foreign policy of the UAE, characterized by special features based on tolerance, dialog and dissociation from regional and international conflicts and conflicts. He managed state policy based on the awareness and understanding of various changes in the region and the world, as well as the importance of interacting with those changes. He laid the foundations and bases for a policy based on solid foundations and principles of working to achieve peace, security and stability, in accordance with a balanced and realistic foreign policy in all its proposals, and documented brotherhood and cooperation with the Arab and Islamic countries and the international community.

Enlightening thoughts

The United Arab Emirates became a member of the United Nations on 9 December 1971 and was 132 of the UN membership. “The president of the United Arab Emirates was a flag of wisdom and was known in the Gulf region for his enlightened ideas and his position at the international level,” said Kurt Waldheim, a veteran Austrian politician and Secretary General. He adds: “What made me more impressed with what I knew about his positions on foreign policy, and I became certain that Sheikh Zayed would be a welcome voice on the scene of international politics, as he had attracted exceptional and undoubtedly deserved respect in all countries of the world.”

Sheikh Zayed said on more than one occasion that “the foreign policy of the state is aimed at supporting Arab and Islamic causes and interests, and consolidating the bonds of friendship and cooperation with all countries and peoples on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations and international ethics and ideals. Our state has achieved great success on the external front, and now it enjoys a prominent position on the Arab and international levels thanks to its noble principles.”

Reconciliation efforts

Sheikh Zayed, may God preserve his wealth, has for more than three decades been dedicated to achieving reconciliation between brothers, resolving Arab differences through understanding and tolerance, and the late one who, God willing, has always warned of the danger of the continuation of the state of fragmentation and deterioration that the Arab nation is going through. He expressed this situation by saying: “From the beginning of the disagreements in the Arab world until today, I have not been pleased with any disagreement between a brother and a friend. God Almighty, who created worshipers, is accountable and forgiving. As Arabs, we have to rely on calculating and forgiving behavior to address our issues at the same time.”

In September 2017, the Soft Power Council launched the “Soft Power Strategy of the United Arab Emirates” as part of the annual meetings of the UAE government. The Soft Power Strategy of the United Arab Emirates aims to prepare a comprehensive government system to develop sustainable programs and policies with a regional and global dimension that encompass all the components of the state’s economic, cultural, artistic, tourism, humanitarian and social components, focusing on human and cultural weight, building on its reputation, and highlighting the UAE’s cultural image, heritage, identity and distinctive culture.

Advanced center

The Global Soft Power Index 2021 ranked the United Arab Emirates as the world’s 17-most advanced country in the area of soft power. The UAE advanced 5% from last year due to several factors, the most prominent of which is the Al-Amal Probe Project to explore Mars. The UAE continues to successfully enhance its influence and position on the global level. The Global Soft Power Index ranked ninth in the world in terms of media attention on its affairs, 8 places higher than last year. The international audience ranked it among the top 10 in the world in terms of economic stability, security and its global diplomatic impact.

The success and prosperity of the United Arab Emirates is a natural harvest and a direct return to intelligent diplomacy, the pillars of which were forgiven by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The standards of power, which included the UAE among the first 17 countries in the world, are a soft force for diplomacy, which was characterized by the balance inherited from the founding structure.

Well-established base

The Founding Leader succeeded in building a solid foundation for the State’s foreign policy, which is the same values and principles with which the Emirati leadership has been saturated, adhered to and is working to implement. The efficiency of the Emirati soft power can be attributed to a number of factors and reasons, the most important of which is its adherence to the high-level humanitarian values established by the Founder and the motivation of its late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to renounce violence as a means of resolving disputes, and its foundation on firm strategic bases of commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and its respect for international conventions and laws. It can also establish relations with all the countries of the world on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of others, as well as a tendency to resolve international disputes through dialog and peaceful means, justice, and effective action, and justice, and support of international stability and to actively engage in combatting extremism.

International honoring

The UN General Assembly, on an unprecedented initiative, organized on 4 November 2011 a historic memorial service for the deceased, God willing, Sheikh Zayed.

“Sheikh Zayed’s wisdom and deep faith in diplomacy to resolve crises, and his generosity in providing assistance to developing countries, enabled him to gain popularity in his country, the Islamic world and the international community,” said UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in an official statement.

Containment of crises

The UAE’s soft diplomacy has helped contain emerging crises and disagreements between countries around the world. It has consistently sought to strengthen its presence through its soft tools, which have been reflected in its direct, indirect and developmental humanitarian and economic assistance programs, as well as its active contribution to peacekeeping operations to protect civilians.
