UAE Red Crescent launches new relief campaign for earthquake victims. Details

The United Arab Emirates has launched a number of humanitarian initiatives to collect donations for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. The most important one is the “Bridges of Good” campaign launched by the UAE Red Crescent in co-ordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and the Ministry of Community Development.

The Red Crescent also called on citizens and residents to join the “Bridges of Good” campaign and help assemble relief packages for those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, the official WAM news agency reported.

The campaign will begin Saturday (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center ADNEC in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Exhibition Center in Expo Dubai.

The UAE Red Crescent and other humanitarian and charitable organizations taking part in the initiative will collect donations in cash and in kind over a two-week period.

The Bridges of Good campaign, which is part of the State’s efforts to provide urgent relief aid to affected people in Syria and Turkey, urges solidarity with affected Syrian and Turkish families and support this voluntary initiative in light of these difficult circumstances to collect and mobilize humanitarian relief packages.

The organization also gave those who wished to volunteer and take part in the campaign the chance to register through the volunteers website.

Search operations are continuing for survivors of a strong earthquake that killed more than 11,200 people in Turkey and Syria according to the latest statistics.

More than 8,500 people have been killed in Turkey and 2,662 in Syria. The World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that 23 million people will be affected.
