UAE successfully evacuates 36,500 from Afghanistan

The United Arab Emirates has affirmed its commitment to strengthening global cooperation and solidarity through the provision of humanitarian and relief assistance to support international efforts aimed at achieving peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The UAE is currently playing an important role in the evacuation process. Since the beginning of August, 36,500 Afghans and nationals of friendly countries have been evacuated from Afghanistan.

“On 20 August, the UAE agreed to host 5,000 Afghan nationals evacuated from Afghanistan to third countries.”

At the request of the United States, the UAE will host Afghan nationals before they go to other countries, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“On 26 August, the UAE facilitated the evacuation of more than 28,000 people, in addition to 8,500 who arrived in the country via national carriers and state airports since the beginning of August, including nationals from France, the UK, Japan, Australia, the US, New Zealand, Latvia, Spain and Mexico.”

The United Arab Emirates, in cooperation with the United States, has established a center in Abou Dabi where travelers from Afghanistan undergo health checks and security checks before traveling to the United States or third countries, under the coordination of the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management. The United Arab Emirates is also working with the United States Embassy, along with consular staff, customs officers and border guards, to deal with travelers around the clock.

The UAE also provides the evacuees with various services, including health care and high-quality food, to ensure their well-being during the evacuations, the statement said.

Commenting on the UAE’s evacuation efforts, Salem Mohammed al-Zaabi, director of the Department of International Security Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said: “Since its establishment, the UAE has adopted a humanitarian approach based on providing protection to the most vulnerable people and helping other countries in times of need.”

Al-Zaabi added: “The UAE is honored to work alongside its partners in the international community to achieve all that serves the interests of the Afghan people, as well as foreign nationals evacuated from Afghanistan for humanitarian reasons.”

The United Arab Emirates would continue to work tirelessly in that regard to ensure that everyone lived in security, safety and dignity.
