UNESCO  lists added 7 new World Heritage sites


The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included 7 new sites on its World Heritage List.

According to UNESCO’s website, 4 of these sites were listed as “natural”, namely, Amami-Oshima Island, Okunoshima Island, the northern part of Okinawa Island and Eryomotei Island (Japan), the Korean tidal flats (Republic of Korea), the site of the Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex (Thailand) and the site of the Kolsheid Rainforest and Wetlands (Georgia).

It listed 3 sites for “cultural features”, namely, Arslan Tepe Hill (Turkey), the extension of the Amsterdam Defense Line, which became known as the Dutch Water Defense Line (Netherlands), and a cross-border site, the Charitable Colonies (Belgium and the Netherlands).

On Sunday, UNESCO added 4 new cultural sites to the World Heritage List, located in China, India, Iran and Spain.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee is holding its forty-fourth annual online session in Fuzhou, and the listing of sites is expected to continue until 28 July 2021.
