Urgent relief aid from the King of Morocco to Gaza via a special route

King Mohammed VI of Morocco, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has ordered the immediate dispatch of emergency humanitarian and medical aid to the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, in light of the unprecedented humanitarian disaster in the territory.

A total of 180 tons of essential supplies has been mobilized, including staple food items, infant milk, child-specific supplies, medications, surgical equipment for the most vulnerable groups, blankets, tents, and other medical materials.

According to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this aid will be delivered “via a special route that will ensure swift and direct access to Palestinian beneficiaries.” The statement emphasized that this large-scale humanitarian operation reflects the unwavering commitment and continued concern of King Mohammed VI for the Palestinian cause.

This initiative comes as a global hunger monitor issued a stark warning this week about an unfolding famine in Gaza, calling for immediate action to prevent mass death.

Morocco has long been committed to providing aid to Gaza, even before the outbreak of the current Israeli war. These efforts have intensified recently out of a strong sense of responsibility towards the Palestinian people, particularly in light of the grim toll of 154 deaths due to hunger and malnutrition—89 of them children—reported by Gaza’s Ministry of Health since October 7, 2023.

Morocco is notably the first country to deliver humanitarian aid directly via the Kerem Shalom crossing, ensuring immediate access to affected populations.

Morocco’s stance on the Palestinian cause remains consistent and unwavering. It is a fundamental pillar of its foreign policy, as demonstrated by King Mohammed VI’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their aspiration to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This position is anchored in clear principles: support for Palestinian rights, endorsement of a two-state solution based on the pre-June 1967 borders, and preservation of the historical and legal status of Jerusalem. As head of the Al-Quds Committee, the King plays a pivotal role in defending the city and protecting its Muslim and Christian holy sites.

The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, the operational arm of the committee, works under the King’s direct supervision to implement cultural, social, and development projects in Jerusalem, aiming to bolster the resilience and identity of the city’s residents.

Although Morocco normalized relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords, the Kingdom has reiterated that this does not compromise its position on the Palestinian issue. King Mohammed VI clarified that the normalization aims to support peace efforts while continuing to uphold the two-state solution and the Islamic character of Jerusalem.

The humanitarian situation worsened considerably in June and July, with critical shortages of supplies across the Strip. The World Health Organization has warned of famine, and harrowing images of severely malnourished children have shocked the global community.
