US-Emirati cooperation: Ambitious agenda for COP 28

The United States of America welcomed and expressed its willingness to work with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, to promote clean energy by developing an appropriate strategy for the COP28 summit.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said he discussed an ambitious agenda for the summit with Abu Dhabi’s crown prince and head of the emirate’s executive council.

In a tweet, Sullivan said, “I discussed with the crown prince of Abu Dhabi the US-UAE ambitious agenda for this year; from security to the COP28 summit, and we hope to meet in person soon,” Alhurra reported.

The United Arab Emirates attaches great importance to hosting COP 28, based on its commitment to global climate action and the important milestone of the conference, especially since it will witness the first global outcome to assess progress made in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The conference is expected to attract more than 70,000 participants, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, and private sector representatives, as well as academics, experts, and youth and non-governmental actors, to discuss climate change and review innovative solutions that support multilateral cooperation and climate diplomacy.

The UAE has established itself as an ideal host country for high-level international events focused on climate action and sustainable development. Thanks to its long and decades-long record of investing in clean energy solutions locally and globally, the UAE is contributing to a new low-emission economic growth model; to form new sectors and provide the skills and jobs needed for the future.

The UAE, a leading member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, will be the second Arab country to host the conference, after Egypt, which hosted the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2022.
