Wadah bin Attiya: 1,700 Yemeni women sit behind Houthi bars amid international silence
The Houthi terrorist militia continues its violations and crimes against women in Yemen, the most recent of which was the abduction of television presenter Ashwaq Al-Rimi while she was traveling between Sanaa and Dhamar governorates, on the pretext that there is no Mahram, and that she was taking over the so-called security and intelligence services. The abduction and enforced disappearance of women is an extension of the terrorist crimes carried out by the Houthi militia against the background of their political, media and human rights activities.
Houthi scandals
Human rights reports revealed that the number of women kidnapped in the detention of the Houthi militia since its coup has reached about 1,700 women, including human rights activists, journalists and activists. The militias continue to arrest them, hundreds of them in poor conditions, and practice psychological and physical torture against them, in a flagrant violation of Yemeni values and customs.
This comes amidst widespread Yemeni demands for the international community, the United Nations, human rights organizations and the defense of women to condemn these criminal practices, which expose the truth about the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, and to put real pressure on the militias to release female abductees immediately, and to stop the crimes and violations they commit against Yemeni women, according to a report by Vision.
Militia crimes
Southern Yemeni political analyst Wadah bin Attiya said the escalating campaign of arrests and pursuits by the Houthi militia against Yemeni women confirms once again that it is a terrorist gang. He said the Houthi militia destroyed everything beautiful in Yemen in implementation of Tehran’s agenda, and that the Houthis’ practices are no different from those of ISIS and al-Qaeda, calling on the international community to act against this terrorist militia.
The Yemeni political analyst added that the violations committed by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people have left a lot of suffering and wounds, and the militias have been repeating and multiplying them. They have created many crimes against the Yemeni society and used all ugly images and methods to apply them against the Yemeni society. This comes amid great international silence towards these crimes, which were monitored and documented by many local and international human rights reports.
Women’s abuses
Dr. Ahmed Jabbari, a Yemeni human rights activist, said: “Many Yemeni organizations are following the campaign of arrests and abductions carried out by the Houthi group against women, activists and social media users for exercising their right to expression, expressing their opinions and positions on the violations and looting of public and private funds taking place in areas under the group’s control. All these terrorist crimes must be held accountable for the terrorist group and the continuous violations it is committing in Yemen to carry out the Iranian plan.”
He said thousands of Yemeni women have suffered because the Houthi militia has tightened their grip on them, depriving them of the right to live and live well, and multiplying their family responsibilities.
Widespread Disapproval of Rights
A human rights organization found that the Houthi militia had committed systematic abuses against women, including forcible detention and torture of some 200 women in Huthi detention.
SAM said that Yemeni women continue to be subjected to various forms of oppression, abuse and humiliation, and that there are thousands of distressing stories to illustrate the scale of suffering they are experiencing in Houthi-controlled areas.
It warned that the international community’s continued engagement with the Yemeni issue in this manner will mean more violations and horrific crimes against Yemeni civilians, especially women.
