Wadhah Ben Atia Exposes Ongoing Houthi Violations: Child Recruitment and Crimes Against Humanity Threaten Yemen’s Future

Yemeni political analyst Wadhah Ben Atia has revealed an alarming increase in violations committed by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people, primarily through the systematic recruitment of children and their deployment to combat zones—an outright breach of international and humanitarian law.

Ben Atia emphasized that the militia continues to dismantle the fabric of Yemeni society by spreading a culture of violence and hatred among younger generations. He noted that thousands of children have been forcibly removed from schools and sent to battlefields without training or awareness—an act that constitutes a full-fledged war crime.

He further explained that child recruitment is only part of the wider pattern of abuses. The Houthis, he said, are also engaged in looting humanitarian aid, planting landmines, extorting civilians, detaining women, and torturing political opponents. These crimes, he warned, are increasing daily under a deeply concerning veil of international silence.

Ben Atia urged the international community and the UN Security Council to fulfill their moral and legal responsibilities toward the Yemeni people and to take firm action to stop what he described as the “systematic Houthi assault on humanity and values.” He warned that continued inaction would only prolong the conflict and deepen the humanitarian crisis.

He concluded by calling on human rights organizations and media outlets to shed light on these abuses and document them, in order to protect Yemen from raising a generation psychologically and mentally scarred by militia terror.
