UAE-Russian Relations
The significant visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed carried important results and implications across various domains between the two countries. It also pushed UAE efforts towards resolving the Ukrainian crisis, contributing to enhancing international security and peace.
This visit marks the second visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed within 9 months since assuming the presidency. The previous visit took place on October 11th and witnessed an important summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, resulting in the development of investment, trade, and economic relations between the two countries.
These significant visits solidify the foundations of the strategic relationship between the two nations, including the signing of a strategic partnership agreement during Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to Russia.
Steadfast UAE Support for Peace Promotion
Russia acknowledged that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to Russia was a constructive visit aimed at promoting and supporting peace. During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering approach of supporting peace, stability, and political solutions to regional and international conflicts. They also discussed friendship and cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance them, in addition to various regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit of the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to Russia coincided with the participation of a high-level UAE delegation led by Sheikh Mohamed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in the “St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023” in Russia.
The UAE also participated in the forum as a guest of honor for the current session, which is taking place from June 14th to 17th.
The Ukrainian Crisis
The visit shed light on the Ukrainian crisis and efforts to resolve it, following a recent UAE delegation’s visit to Ukraine. The UAE has been continuously exerting efforts to facilitate a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and providing ongoing humanitarian support to alleviate its severity.
Additionally, the visit coincided with the UAE’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council in June, the highest international body concerned with safeguarding international security and peace. This is the second time the UAE has held this position after presiding over it in March of last year, reflecting the UAE’s persistent efforts to resolve the crisis.
