Yemen: Houthis fire student from school for refusing to chant Iranian slogans
In an incident that reflects the increasing violations of the Houthi militia in Yemen, the father of a Yemeni student confirmed that a secondary school in the capital Sana’a controlled by the Houthis expelled a student for refusing to repeat the militia’s logo.
This decision provoked outrage in Yemen. Farouk Jaber confirmed that the director of a secondary school in Sana’a, who did not mention his name, expelled his daughter Taghreed for refusing to sing the Houthis’ logo before the morning line, despite the fact that she was an excellent student.
Houthi extremism
The Houthis recently issued a circular ordering that their slogan be “Death to America!” Death to Israel! A curse on the Jews! Victory for Islam!” It is repeated in elementary and secondary schools during the early morning activities, claiming that the aim of this step is to challenge the United States and Israel while instilling religious values in students, which analysts considered a Houthi violation and suppression of students’ rights, according to the international English language newspaper “Arab News”, Jaber said: His daughter had previously refused to chant other sectarian slogans on religious occasions, adding via his Facebook account: “My daughter was not convinced and refused to recite the slogan even if they prevented her from studying,” he said. “My daughter survived the efforts of her teacher to convince her otherwise.
Iranian ideology
Hundreds of Yemenis criticized the Houthi militia’s behavior and their attempt to impose Iranian ideology on students. They expressed their support for the girl in response to the father’s pamphlet, which received hundreds of likes and was widely circulated on social media. “This is a foolish and catastrophic decision! Roaishan said: “The expulsion of a student is tantamount to the execution of an innocent student. You have to back down and refrain from starting a fire in a country where there are already a lot of fires. Some Yemenis have even suggested starting a fundraising campaign to cover the tuition fees of a segregated student in a private school so that you can return to class.
