Mercenary Recruitment
Recently, international media have started to view the Yemeni war from a new perspective, particularly due to the Houthis’ recruitment of dozens of Yemenis to fight as mercenaries in Ukraine. This initiative aims to position the Houthis as a regional ally for Russia and secure missiles to threaten maritime navigation and energy resources.
Houthi militias recruited unemployed Yemeni youth, transferring them to Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and some directly to Russia. In return, recruits were promised Russian citizenship and advance payments.
