Yemeni foreign minister: Iran blackmails the world through its arms and militias
Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Bin Mubarak accused the Iranian regime of blackmailing the world through its arms of terrorist militias in a number of Arab countries, including Yemen.
He said in a press statement during his meeting with the Charge d’Affaires of the US Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Westley yesterday: “The Houthi militia is gambling with the security and stability of the region in order to realize the agenda of the Iranian regime”, the official Saba agency reported.
Bin Mubarak noted that the systematic attacks of militias against civilians and civilian objects unequivocally confirm the terrorist nature of this group, condemning the continuous military escalation carried out by the Houthi militias.
“The status quo of the Safer does not afford to waste any more time on new evasions by the Houthi militias”, he said, reiterating the Yemeni government’s support for the resident coordinator’s proposal, which aims to mitigate the potential threat.
The United Nations recently put forth a new proposal to transfer one million barrels of crude oil on board the ship Safer to another ship, in order to lessen the threat. The tanker turned into a time bomb that raises the world’s fears of an imminent explosion. Humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, David Gressly, announced progress on the new UN proposal after he had engaged in separate negotiations between Aden and Sanaa and discussions with interested member states on the issue, stressing that the risk of an imminent disaster is very real.
Simultaneously, the Houthi militias came out in a statement attacking the UN and holding it responsible for any consequences of the disaster, in a new attempt to nip the UN movement in the bud, renege on its commitments, and invest the file politically.
