Yemenis Rise Up Against Militias Affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood… Here’s the Issue
Residents of the Al-Maqatirah and Ash Shamayatayn districts, along with neighboring areas in the southern countryside of Taiz, have protested against militias affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood‘s Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade, led by the Brotherhood leader Abu Bakr Al-Jaboli.
Hundreds of Yemenis expressed their rejection of the violations committed by the brigade and the crimes it perpetrates in a demonstration held yesterday in front of the judicial complex in the city of Al-Turbah, as reported by Yemen News.
The protesters stated that Al-Jaboli’s brigade has been holding dozens of civilians, including children, for nearly six months, forcibly hiding them in the brigade’s prisons. They chanted slogans condemning the abductions, arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, unjustified home raids and intrusions, as well as the intimidation of women and children, in blatant violation of the constitution, law, and human rights principles.
The statement issued at the conclusion of the event expressed the full solidarity of the demonstrators with the victims of the Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade’s violations, urging the President of the Command Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, and the members of the Presidential Command Council, the judiciary, the government, the leadership and Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Human Rights to assume their national responsibilities in the face of these violations and unlawful practices, and to compel the Fourth Mountain Infantry Brigade’s command to adhere to the constitution and the law, and to immediately release all those kidnapped, detained, and forcibly hidden by the brigade’s command, or to refer them to the competent security and judicial authorities in accordance with the constitution and the law.
The protesters also called on the United Nations, local and international human rights organizations, and the National Commission for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations to stand in solidarity with the victims of these violations and their families.
At the end of the protest event, the participants submitted a complaint from the relatives of the victims to the deputy prosecutor of Shamaytin, urging him to initiate legal action against these serious human rights violations.
