In the medical journal of American Academy of Neurology, Neurology, 38 studies (including more than 2 million people) have been combed through to identify the link between leisure activities and cognitive health. According to the researchers, the regular practice of some of them reduce the risk of dementia. So-called “intellectual” activities are the most beneficial: reading, games thinking, playing an instrument music decrease by 23% the likelihood of suffering from cognitive decline. Undervalued social activities

Unlike previous studies on the prevention of cognitive diseases the article published in Neurology offers few credits for social activities. In fact, according to the results of the researchers, the social activities such as joining a social club, volunteering visits to parents or to friends reduce the risk of dementia by “only” 7%.
