3 Habits of a Chinese Elderly Woman Celebrating Her 124th Birthday

An elderly woman who recently celebrated her 124th birthday shared three daily habits she never gives up on and believes to be the secret behind her long life.

According to the Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post, the woman stated that going to bed early, having three meals a day, and maintaining an optimistic outlook are habits she practices daily.

The newspaper reported that Qiu Chaixi eats three meals daily, takes a walk after eating, and goes to bed at 8 PM. She performs tasks such as combing her hair, lighting a fire, feeding geese, and even climbing stairs with ease.

Born in 1901 during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), Qiu Chaixi currently lives in Nanchong city, located in Sichuan Province, southwest China.

On January 1, 2025, Qiu Chaixi turned 124 years old.

According to the newspaper, Qiu Chaixi had already earned the respect of her village before her marriage due to her outstanding accounting skills and remarkable physical strength. She took on the hardest agricultural tasks, including paving stones.

At the age of 40, her husband passed away suddenly, leaving her to raise four children alone. Despite financial hardships, she worked tirelessly to provide new clothes and food for her children.

Her granddaughter told the newspaper: “After every hardship, my grandmother remains silent for a while, then comes back laughing and optimistic.”

Qiu Chaixi now lives with her granddaughter in a three-story rural house in Nanchong.

According to the 2020 Chinese census data cited by the newspaper, there are 119,000 citizens in China over the age of 100, the highest number in the world.
