According to Russian websites, this is the first discovery of a mummy of an adult predatory animal from the late Pleistocene era.
It was found in 2021 at a depth of 40 meters in the permafrost near the Tirekhtyakh River in the Abyisky district. The scientists indicated that the permafrost preserved the mummy in a way that allows researchers to determine what the animal had eaten and the bacteria that lived during the time it roamed the mammoth steppe.
Local residents discovered the wolf mummy on the Tirekhtyakh River in the Abyisky district in Yakutia in 2021.
The animal was transported for scientific research to the Republic’s Academy of Sciences.
