5 injured, including 3 children, in a stabbing incident in Dublin

Five people, including three children, were taken to the hospital on Thursday, according to the Irish police, following media reports of a stabbing incident in front of a school in central Dublin.

The police established a security cordon around Parnell Square in the Irish capital, but they do not suspect a terrorist motive for the attack.

Irish media reported that the suspicion revolves around a stabbing incident.

The Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, announced the arrest of a suspect, while the police said they were “following a specific line of inquiry.”

The police said in a statement that they are “not looking for anyone at the moment.”

The statement added: “Five injured were transferred to various hospitals in the Dublin area, including an adult man, an adult woman, and three young children.”

It clarified in the statement that a girl suffered severe injuries, while the other two children are being treated for less severe injuries.

The statement confirmed that the police are “investigating all possibilities” regarding what it described as a “serious public order incident” that occurred just after 1:30 pm.

The police are in contact with the parents of the three children.

Varadkar expressed shock at the incident that occurred in front of an elementary school, according to local media.

He added in a statement that “emergency services responded quickly and arrived at the scene within minutes, and I thank them for that.”
