Armenia was checking reports about combatants from Syria claimed to fight in Azerbaijan

Armenian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that it was examining reports concerning combatants from Syria who claimed that they are fighting for Azerbaijan’s side in confrontations about the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh province.

Foreign policy aide to the Azeri president, Hikmet Hajiyev, dismissed the report carried by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and described it as nonsense.

Indeed, at least 16 military and several civilians were killed on Sunday in the big confrontations between Armenia and Azerbaijan since 2016, which making concern about stability in the South Caucasus, which is a corridor for pipelines carrying oil and gas to world markets.
