Calls to boycott TikTok in Saudi Arabia.. The company comments
Saudi Arabia’s social media users went viral on Twitter, with pro-Saudi content immediately deleted after the app was published.
Accordingly, users launched a label on the X platform urging a “boycott” of the app.
Commenting on the boycott calls, TikTok said in a statement:
There is no truth to the rumors circulating about TikTok deleting content related to Saudi Arabia.
We strongly reject these claims as contrary to our policy and values and spreading a misleading picture of our content management policies.
TikTok vows a set of community guidelines that include rules and standards for platform use.
The company applies the guidelines to everyone and all kinds of content on our platform.
These policies are implemented by our global and independent security and safety teams.
Members of the advisory board or our staff do not interfere in the decisions made by these teams and some social media posts are circulated.
We strongly reject deliberate smear campaigns against our staff and partners that threaten their security and safety.
We at TikTok cherish the building of a community that actively contributes to the global creative system, and we also cherish our community in the Kingdom, which has been a source of inspiration for creativity in various fields and has contributed to raising our global community’s awareness of Saudi culture.
WhereToVisitKSA has achieved more than 728 million views worldwide, WhereToEatKSA has more than one billion views globally, and Saudi Talent has gained more than 302.8 million views worldwide.
We call on all members of our community to be accurate in disseminating information, to consult us through existing channels and to directly petition our app if they believe that any content and/or account has been improperly removed.
Following the release of the statement, many observers in the Kingdom insisted that the app had removed leaflets supporting Saudi Arabia after they were published immediately.
