Panic worldwide as mysterious disease strikes China
Over the past few days, thousands of patients, mostly children with a mysterious respiratory disease, have flooded hospitals in Beijing and northern China.
This comes as the country enters its first winter since the lifting of strict ‘zero-COVID‘ measures.
Chinese authorities attribute the spread of the disease to a reduction in precautionary measures and the circulation of known disease agents such as the flu.
On the other hand, the International Disease Surveillance Association, ProMed, affirmed that it is unusual for such a large number of children to be affected at this speed. With the increasing number of cases, the World Health Organization expressed concern, urging China to provide detailed information about this mysterious illness.
