A janitor impersonates a doctor and extracts a patient’s teeth
A strange incident occurred in a private clinic in the Turkish city of Istanbul when a janitor assumed the role of a dentist, removed a patient’s teeth, and prescribed medication for him.
The Turkish newspaper “Zaman” reported that the patient, named Hakan Yıldırım, was suffering from tooth pain and contacted the clinic. The janitor, Jamal Shan Aslan, answered the phone and introduced himself as a dentist, scheduling an appointment for him to come in the evening.
After welcoming the patient to the clinic, Aslan claimed to be a lecturer at a university. He then examined Yıldırım’s teeth in the clinic where they were alone and decided to extract four of them.
According to the newspaper, the patient tried to explain that it was not right to extract the outer teeth, but Aslan replied, saying, “Do you teach me my job?” He then removed his upper front four teeth under the influence of local anesthesia, charging a fee of 1,000 lira for the examination without providing a receipt or invoice.
Hakan Yıldırım, whose face was swollen and in pain after the tooth extraction, went to the pharmacy with the prescription written by Shan Aslan. However, the pharmacist said it was not stamped, and therefore, the Social Security Institution would not cover the cost of the medicine. It was then revealed that Yıldırım had fallen victim to deception.
Dr. Ibrahim Levent, the owner of the clinic, said, “Jamal is a janitor; he comes and cleans in the evening.” He expressed his shock at what he heard and filed a complaint with the court.
The patient stated that the swelling on his face did not subside for a whole month, and in the lawsuit, he mentioned, “Due to excessive swelling, there was sagging and constant bruising under my eyes. My teeth were damaged due to improper treatment, and I suffered psychological harm.”
