A 58-year-old man attempted to assassinate former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to American media.

The American network “Fox News” reported that Ryan Wesley Routh is the suspect in the shooting incident that occurred at a golf course where Trump was present.

According to the same source, Routh has a long history of arrests spanning several decades. He was shot by Secret Service agents after pointing the barrel of an AK-47 rifle towards a barbed wire fence near the location where Trump was present.

U.S. authorities are treating the incident as a clear assassination attempt against Trump.

According to “Fox News,” Routh was born in North Carolina and currently resides in Hawaii. His arrest record includes charges such as possession of minor drugs, driving without a license, expired inspection, and driving without insurance.

Additionally, the “Greensboro News & Record” reported in 2002 that Routh was arrested after barricading himself in the offices of his roofing company during a three-hour standoff following a traffic stop, during which he placed his hand on a firearm before fleeing.

Routh moved to Hawaii in 2017 and has since started a construction company focused on building affordable housing.

Media outlets have circulated footage of Routh from an interview conducted in 2022 with “Newsweek Romania,” where he openly discussed his pro-Ukrainian views in the war with Russia and his efforts to recruit foreign fighters to support Kiev.

After the incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson stated: “This does not appear to be just a random man carrying an AK-47 wandering outside Trump’s club.” A Secret Service member spotted the armed man while Trump was playing the fifth hole of the golf course. Officials say Routh left behind an AK-47 rifle, a GoPro camera, and two bags along the barbed wire fence marking the sixth hole of the course.

Routh fled in an SUV after being shot by a Secret Service agent, but he was quickly apprehended, according to authorities.
