Elon Musk’s Father Reveals the Cause of His Son’s Dispute with Trump

Few expected the political alliance between Trump and Musk to devolve into conflict so quickly—but the father of the Tesla founder sees it differently.

Speaking to Russian media in Moscow, billionaire Elon Musk’s father stated that the recent escalation of tensions between his son and former U.S. President Donald Trump stemmed from ongoing pressure.

The rift erupted after Musk sharply criticized the proposed federal budget bill currently under debate in Congress—legislation that Trump has described as “big and beautiful,” while Musk called it “disgusting.”

Musk’s Father’s Explanation

During a visit to the Russian capital, Errol Musk told Izvestia newspaper: “As you know, they’ve both been under a lot of pressure for the past five months. Let’s give them a break… They’re exhausted and stressed out, so something like this is to be expected.”

He added: “Trump has the upper hand—he’s the president and was elected to that role. So I believe Elon made a mistake. But he’s tired, he’s tense.”

Errol Musk described the disagreement as “just a minor issue that will be over by tomorrow.”

Trump Issues a Warning

On Saturday, Donald Trump warned his former advisor Elon Musk of “serious consequences” if Musk supports legal challenges against Republican lawmakers backing the controversial budget bill in Congress.

Trump’s remarks, made to NBC News, come amid the public deterioration of his relationship with the world’s richest man—a conflict that unfolded over the past week.

Notably, Musk had heavily funded Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and was later appointed to lead a government initiative aimed at reducing the size of the federal workforce and cutting public spending.
