Lebanese Army Seizes Grad Rockets Smuggled from Syria
The Lebanese Army has announced the seizure of Grad rockets that had been smuggled from Syrian territory.
In an official statement, the Lebanese Army said that “on August 3, 2026, as part of ongoing security operations targeting smuggling activities along the northern and eastern borders, an army unit seized 122-mm Grad rockets in the mountainous area of Ersal that had been smuggled from Syrian territory into Lebanon, along with a pickup truck that was being used to transport them.”
The statement added that two members of the smuggling network had been arrested, while raids were carried out in search of the remaining members of the group. Ammunition and military equipment were also confiscated.
According to the statement, the suspects are being questioned under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities, while investigations continue in an effort to apprehend the remaining individuals involved.
This marks the third foiled attempt to smuggle weapons from Syria within the space of a single month.
On July 21, the Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs announced that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 226 “RGC” grenades concealed inside a passenger vehicle bound for Lebanon.
Earlier, on July 16, Syrian authorities stated that they had intercepted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of “advanced weapons,” including long-range missiles, across the Iraqi border. According to Syrian officials, the shipment was intended for Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Since coming to power in late 2024, Syria’s new authorities have repeatedly announced the arrest of cells allegedly linked to Hezbollah, as well as the seizure of weapons reportedly destined for the group.
